On July 10th, Democratic leaders in both the House and Senate sent formal letters to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the U.S. Department of Education urging the immediate release of Congressionally appropriated FY25 education funds. These critical funds remain unallocated, despite being approved by Congress, which delays essential support for K–12 schools, higher education, and specialized programs nationwide.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) also held a press conference yesterday highlighting the detrimental impact of the delay, particularly in her home state of New York, where schools and communities are already feeling the strain.
JNCL-NCLIS has been a vocal advocate on this issue, signing on to multiple coalition letters and mobilizing thousands of advocates through our networks to call for the release of these vital funds. We remain committed to working with our partners and federal agencies to ensure timely allocation and support for the programs that sustain and advance language education across the country.
We will continue to monitor developments closely and share updates as they become available. Please see the links below to read the letters and learn more about these actions.
