FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC., September 30th, 2020 -- Today, the Joint National Committee for Languages and National Council for Languages and International Studies (JNCL-NCLIS), the premier advocacy organization for America’s Language Enterprise, launched the JNCL-NCLIS Legislative Action Center. This comprehensive resource is the next step in proactive government affairs management for JNCL-NCLIS, and will make taking action and engaging with key legislation easier than ever for language advocates across the country.
The JNCL-NCLIS Legislative Action Center hosts a streamlined interface, alerting advocates to the issue, matching them to their correct elected officials, and guiding them through the message sending process in just seconds. In addition to ease of action, advocates will be able to log meeting outcomes, search key legislation, explore information about their legislators, and view scorecards to see how their Members of Congress voted on issues that matter.
"I am proud and excited to be able to offer our JNCL-NCLIS members these important tools that will empower us to be better informed and take action on issues that are important to the future of the Language Enterprise,” said JNCL-NCLIS President, Rita A. Oleksak. “JNCL-NCLIS has had an important voice in Washington for 40 years and this next step speaks to our commitment and dedication to continuing this momentum forward."
In recognition of the state and local legislative challenges faced by language advocates, JNCL-NCLIS has recently broadened its reach to engage and support more members. To further realize this goal of expansion, JNCL-NCLIS has acquired two additional digital legislative tracking and advocacy tools.
“JNCL-NCLIS has a long history of speaking up and taking action by empowering our passionate and dedicated members to tell their stories and connect with legislators,” said JNCL-NCLIS President-Elect and Advocacy Chair, Amanda Seewald. “This step is a recognition of our commitment to leading our members to achieve new legislative pathways for language learning and the Language Enterprise as a whole while also ensuring that any challenges faced at the state and federal levels can be met with full engagement.”
As an introductory initiative, JNCL-NCLIS invites members and non-members to explore features of the JNCL-NCLIS Legislative Action Center as they are developed and introduced over the next month. Advocates can visit the JNCL-NCLIS Legislative Action Center to sign-up and take action.
