FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C., March 19, 2021 -- JNCL-NCLIS is appalled by the violent murders that took place in Atlanta, GA on March 16. Today we express our sincerest condolences and offer our support to the families of those who lost their lives and to our members, advocates, and allies experiencing the pain of these traumatic events. We stand in solidarity with Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) people across our country against all racist rhetoric and acts.
As we face the deeply troubling continuance of hate crimes, we reaffirm our commitment to being catalysts for change. We will continue to work together to raise awareness of the critical need for equitable and broad opportunities for multilingual and multicultural learning to fulfill our vision of a world where language builds mutual understanding and acceptance of cultural and linguistic diversity. JNCL-NCLIS aims to support policy that focuses on a national outlook that addresses amplifying language and culture as integral ways to respect our diverse communities.
