Title: America's Languages Caucus Briefing:  The Case for Improving Student Achievement and Career Readiness Through Multilingualism and Language Education at the K-12 Level

Description: Multiple studies have shown that students who engage in language education benefit from the opportunity to build skills and knowledge that are essential to employers. Despite this data, language education remains outside the core curriculum in the vast majority of school districts and, compared to other nations, the United States under-invests in world language, dual language immersion and other language education programs.

Join an expert panel of educators drawn from K-12, higher education, and top-level leadership to discuss the facts, the challenges, and the solutions – including federal legislation such as the recently introduced World Langauge Education Assistance Program ( World LEAP) Act (H.R. 5603) – to expanding language education in this country.

Panel Moderator: Amanda Seewald, Executive Director, JNCL-NCLIS

Panelists:

Fernando Rubio

Director, Center for Language Study at Yale University

Vincent Civarelli

Spanish Teacher, The Charter School of Wilmington

President, DECTFL (Delaware Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages)

Dr. Francisco Durán

Superintendent, Arlington Public Schools
